The CEO and Product Architect Elon Musk says that he won’t be considering making the Cybertruck any smaller but instead Tesla would be focusing on making a more compact electric pickup truck for the global market later.

Not long after the unveiling the prototype of the Cybertruck, Musk was seen making comments about making the pick-up truck smaller in order to fit a garage.

He spoke of how owners would need to wrap the truck with colours if a change in colour is required as the truck would only be released in one colour option and that being grey metal stainless steel. The change of colour would cost anywhere between $1000 and $ 2000 depending on the hue. Apart from the colour customization the adaptive suspension of the electric vehicle would also be updated, which Musk assures will provide a unique driving experience.

According to Musk, the biggest change in the final line-up would be a 3% size reduction, which would make the “centre line more level and lowered the window sill height”. However, upon a discussion on making the prototype smaller, Musk noted that the Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen and he came to a conclusion that the truck could not be made any smaller. “Reviewed [the Cybertruck] design with Franz last night. Even 3% smaller is too small. It will be pretty much this size [referring to the prototype].”

The prototype is 231.7 inches long, 79.8 inches wide and 75 inches tall, with up to a 35-degree approach angle, a 28-degree departure angle and up to 16 inches of ground clearance. Its size resembles some of the bigger versions of the Ford F-150.

The automaker’s vision was to produce a futuristic electric truck with the functionalities of full-size pickup trucks available in the market today, which they plan to launch towards late 2021. The deadline, however, is most likely to change due to the current global pandemic situation, which has forced its factories to be in lockdown.

The two high-end versions of the electric truck, which start at $ 49,000, would be equipped with a dual and tri-motor powertrains while having 300 to 500 miles of range on them. A more budget-friendly lower range version of the truck will be available later on at $ 40,000

Astonishingly, Tesla has already received over half a million reservations for the electric pickup truck around the world, thus the company is looking to build a new factory in Texas to produce the Cybertruck.
