Capturing that ‘immaculate moment’ isn’t as easy as it seems, true a good DSLR camera or a high-end smartphone will surely increase your odds of reaching your goal or perhaps get you pretty darn close. Nick Wood, a professional freelance photographer based in Clampham, London explains that there are three key elements in capturing that ‘Kodak Moment’ and no, we are not talking about purchasing a Kodak camera necessarily but, it helps to own one. So, let’s snap into Nick’s elements, shall we?
The right composition;
Always look at capturing the simplest photograph with minimum background distractions, this will give prominence to your focus and most often than not, a great subject doesn’t really produce the best photograph. A good background and surrounding elements make up the whole of the picture. Try to fill the frame with the subject as much as possible and well, we all agree that angles play a pivotal role here. So, make sure add some variation in angles by simply ducking down to capture a bit of the ground or perhaps elevate yourself to get a different perspective.
The perfect lighting;
Digital cameras, unfortunately, can’t really deal with too much exposure from sunlight, therefore it’s better to avoid capturing shots in really bright areas, if you must, look out for some shade or a place with neutral lighting. After all, you wouldn’t want to capture a tainted shot now, would you? As the case with bright exposure, dim lighting isn’t really a friend of the Digital camera either but sometimes when coupled with perfect natural lighting you’d end up with some breathtaking shots.
The final touches and post-production;
Most often than not our Digital cameras tend to take sharp and flat photos. This may be perfect in an instance where optimal clarity is essential above all, but the key to mastering this element is actually quite simple. Most people tend to play around with editing software and quite frankly tweak the images here and there a tad. This actually is a good thing as it creates a sense of uniqueness and brings the picture to life. There’s always room for improvement in clarity despite what the professionals say. Just follow your gut feeling.
Now that we’ve picked up a few neat tricks on how to improve photography capturing and editing skills. It’s time to put everything to the test. Finally, don’t be afraid to experiment with filters, they could be your closest companion particularly when it comes to adding that extra flair. That being said just grab that camera and head out into the wilderness, the city or where ever your heart takes you and make sure you capture that moment as it was intended to be captured. Happy shooting!!!
